About Marco Ferretti

Marco Ferretti grew up in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, surrounded by some of the most expensive yachts in the Mediterranean and the sailors who delivered them. He spent fifteen years as a professional charter skipper running the circuit from the Amalfi Coast through the Greek islands to the Turkish Riviera, accumulating over 200 charter deliveries and an unmatched mental catalogue of harbours, anchorages, and waterfront restaurants from Naples to Bodrum. Marco holds an International Certificate of Competence and is fluent in Italian, Turkish, and Greek — a linguistic range that reflects the three coastlines where he has spent most of his professional life. He knows every harbour master by first name along the routes he ran for a decade and a half, and his destination guides are informed by the kind of granular local knowledge that only comes from arriving at the same port a hundred times in different seasons and conditions. Marco left professional skippering in 2018 to write full-time about Mediterranean sailing, and he has been based in Bodrum, Turkey since 2019. His Turkey and Italy sailing guides for ExploreYachts draw on those 200-plus deliveries and remain the most detailed coastline references on the site. When he is not writing, Marco sails his own Beneteau Oceanis 38.1 along the Bodrum peninsula and experiments with Turkish cuisine in his waterfront kitchen.
