About James Whitfield

James Whitfield is a PADI IDC Staff Instructor and IGFA-certified angler who spent ten years guiding fishing and diving charters across the Eastern Caribbean before picking up a pen. Based in Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, he has logged more than 3,000 dives from the coral walls of the Grenadines to the shore reefs of Bonaire, and he caught — and released — his first blue marlin at the age of nineteen off La Guaira Bank, Venezuela. James’s activity guides for ExploreYachts combine deep technical expertise with the infectious enthusiasm of someone who still gets visibly excited about a bonefish tailing on a shallow flat at dawn. His writing covers scuba diving, fly fishing, deep-sea fishing, snorkelling, and the full spectrum of water-based adventure activities available to charter guests across the Caribbean. Before joining ExploreYachts, James contributed to Sport Fishing Magazine and Undercurrent, and his underwater photography has appeared in Scuba Diver and Alert Diver. He holds a USCG Captain’s license and runs his own 26-foot centre console out of Admiralty Bay when he is not writing. James believes that the best moments on any charter happen when you turn off the engine, jump in the water, and pay attention to what lives below the surface.
